The application site is based approximately 450m from Clonlara village within the grounds of a light industrial unit known as Clonlara Wholesale Distributors, in a relatively rural area, just off the Springfield Road.

The proposed development would comprise a 30-metre-high telecommunications tower with antennas, dishes, equipment cabinets and security fencing.

According to Charter House Consultants, the infrastructure will be essential to improve network coverage in the region, which the Communications Regulator has described as weak in the area.

The applicant claims the proposed site is ideally located to provide the enhanced 4G coverage and 5G coverage.

The cover letter, submitted as part of the application, states Clare County Council is aware the provision of such services is vital for the economy and highlights areas of particularly weak coverage in Castleconnell and Toureen.

The local authority is accepting public submissions until July 21st and a decision is due to be made by August 11th.
