Residents and commuters in North Clare have been given a boost with the announcement of major flood alleviation works for the area.
Clare County Council has been granted over a quarter of a million euro for works to be carried out on the outskirts of Ballyvaughan in order to avert future flooding of roads there – the routes were badly affected in the floods of November 2009 with sections of it closed due to the flood waters.

The 270 thousand euro, granted by the Junior Minister with Responsibility for Public Works Brian Hayes, will allow for the laying of a pipe from a local turlough to the sea, and are expected to be completed in the coming months.
