The number of people on the live register in Clare has risen by almost 7% in the last month.
The latest figures from the Central Statistics Office show that 270 more people are claiming unemployment benefit in the county in March.
Figures released by the Central Statistics Office show that more than 4,100 people were claiming some form of unemployment benefit in Clare last month.
This marks a significant increase on the numbers claiming in February, however it’s still more than 16% less than the same time last year.
Of the near 300 additional claimants in March, over 70% of those were in Ennis.
194 people signed on in Ennis in the space of four weeks – 118 of those were male and 76 were female.
Clare’s other regions only recorded marginal increases – with 36 more people signing on in North Clare, 10 in West Clare and 30 in East Clare.
Meanwhile, the final installement of the Pandemic Unemployment was paid on April 5th, with the remaining receipients now being transferred to jobseeker’s allowance.
This means that the numbers claiming unemployment benefit in Clare are likely to increase again this month.
As of the week ending March 27, 1,018 people in Clare will still in receipt of the pandemic payment.
