25% Increase In Clare’s Live Register Figures On This Time Last Year

There’s been an almost 25% increase in Clare’s Live Register figures this October compared to last.

The latest figures from the Central Statistics Office show that a total of 4,821 were claiming some form of unemployment benefit at the end of October.

In October 2021, 3,783 people in the county were claiming some form of unemployment benefit.

 

One year later and the county has recorded an increase of 1,038 people on its live register.

North Clare has seen the largest jump in people signing on – with 1,126 receiving the payment last month compared to 643 last year.

This marks a rise of over 54%.

Ennis has seen a 22% rise, with 2,421 people attending the social welfare office, compared to 1,929 last October.

West Clare saw a smaller increase of 11%, with 734 now claiming there.

While, East Clare was the only area to see a decrease in the number on the live register with 540 currently in receipt of some form of unemployment benefit, a drop of four people on last year.
