The number of patients waiting more than a year for cardiology appointment in Ennis increased by 24% in the last month.
The latest figures from the National Treatment Purchase Fund show however that the total number of service users waiting to see a consultant at University Hospital Limerick is continuing to fall.
In total 32,729 adults and children were waiting for either an inpatient or outpatient appointment at the MidWest facilities in September , representing a 1.5% drop on the previous month.
At University Hospital Limerick , 1,239 adults were waiting over eighteen months to be called, in addition to 134 children, meaning a further 189 patients were cleared from the backlog.
In Ennis, the number of adults waiting this length of time for a specialist service more than doubled , rising from 3 to 7, although for the third month in succession, no children were on a waiting list greater than twelve months.
Cardiology remains the discipline most in demand in the county town, with 149 patients now waiting over a year to see a specialist in the field at the end of September, which is an increase of 24%.
At UHL meanwhile the majority of patients in line to see a consultant for an extended period were awaiting dermatology, eye surgery or ear and nose and throat services.
