Clare County Council’s set to submit a planning application for a new wastewater treatment plant Lahinch early next year.
It’s after the local authority completed a feasibility study into an upgrading of the facilities in both Ennistymon and Lahinch, with the suggestion that a new site between the two towns be identified.
Local representatives are making fresh calls for the fast tracking of the project, claiming it’s stalling development in North Clare.
Chair of the West Clare Municipal District and Ennistymon-based Fianna Fail Councillor Shane Talty has been telling Clare FM’s Josh Prenderville the current plant is not fit for purpose.
