200K Cut to LEADER Funding in Clare

Clare is to lose out on at least 200 thousand euro in LEADER funding that had already been allocated for rural development in the county.

Clare Local Development Company, which adminsters the fund here, says they have been told by government that the money, which has not been allocated to a project as of yet, cannot be re-allocated and is being 'clawed back'.

The warning came in an address to Clare County Councillors, who have again opposed the Environment Minister's plans to give local authorities a greater role in community development.

CLDC describes this as the biggest threat to face community-led development since it first began in Clare 21 years ago, it's CEO is Doreen Graham.
