Works to complete the Long-awaited Ennis to Galway Motorway could finally be making progress.
Following completion of the Ennis, Crusheen and Gort By-pass, the next phase of the N18 motorway is due to stretch to Oranmore and on the N17 at Tuam, but recession was blamed as plans for the Western Corridor ground to a halt.
The government’s action plan on Jobs included work on the route, with funding expected to come from the European Investment Bank, and now the Department of the Public Expenditure is to provide 20 million euro as an initial deposit to get negotiations on the construction of the road back on track.
Shannon Senator Tony Mulcahy hopes the next phase of the motorway will begin construction before the end of this year
