Passengers journeys by train between Ennis and Limerick have increased by 20% in the last year.
New figures released by Iarnród Éireann to Bodyke Fine Gael TD Joe Cooney show the level of investment in the company’s capital investment programme, which supports the Limerick to Galway service, will rise from €700 million this year to €2.5 billion in 2029.
It’s also been revealed that Passing Loop studies are being conducted at Cratloe, Clarecastle and Crusheen to allow for greater frequency and capacity of services.
The Government has yet to commit to reopening the Crusheen rail stop but Deputy Cooney believes the village’s inclusion in the current studies is a positive sign.
