1916 Proclamation Recalled In Chambers Of Clare County Council

The 1916 Proclomation has been recalled in the chambers of Clare County Council as part of efforts to improve rural roads.

A cross-party group of Clare Councillors say the poor state of smaller routes is proof that Ireland has failed to live up to the proclomation's promise to afford equal opportunities to all citizens.

They've persuaded their fellow representatives to vote in favour of a plan to raise 1.6 million euro in loans to allow for the re-instatement of the local improvement scheme, in which works are paid for by the Council and by residents.

The plan needs government approval.
