New figures reveal that almost 19,000 people are members of a library in Clare.
That represents a rise of 12.5% compared with the end of November 2015, while almost 500,000 books were borrowed in the first eleven months of this year.
The County Library in Ennis has the highest membership, with 17,853, and is followed by Shannon with nearly 10 and a half thousand and Kilrush with over 4,400 members.
West Clare Councillor Christy Curtin says the figures show the important role libraries play in Clare communities.
