The CEO of Ul Hospitals Group remains confident that its Winter Resillience Plan will reduce the number of people waiting on trolleys at the region's main hospital.
19 new beds have been brought on stream at University Hospital Limerick following the re-opening of the Cohort Ward which deals with infection prevention and control.
The ward has been closed for a number of months for refurbishment works to bring it in line with HIQA standards.
It's hoped the opening of the new beds will help ease the overcrowding crisis which saw the number of people waiting on trolleys in the Emergency Department rise to 28 on Wednesday last week, the highest of any hospital in the country.
Colette Cowan says even more new beds will be brought on stream in the coming weeks.
