18% Rise In Parking Violations Across Clare In 2023

The number of parking violations recorded across Clare increased by over 18% last year.

Over the past twelve months the local authority issued almost 4,000 fines for the infringement.

Motorists in Ennis accounted for the lion’s share of offences with a total of 2,895 fixed charge notices issued in the town.

The majority of penalties once again involved non-payment for parking in a fee-paying site, resulting in a fine on 1,587 occasions.

710 fines were dished out to vehicles that failed to display an up to date tax disc and 174 drivers were penalised for parking in a loading bay.

While the number of fines issued for parking in a disabled bay without a permit in Ennis increased by 22% to 139.

Ennistymon also saw a surge in this regard with the number of recorded offences more than doubling from 8 to 20.

In Lahinch, the number of violations detected for parking in a disabled bay fell from 24 in 2022 to just 8 last year.

However the number of penalties for non-payment soared by over 46% with 144 fines issued.

Doolin saw a reduction in the overall number of fines issued, however over the past twelve months 55 fines were issued for parking on double yellow lines.

In Lisdoonvarna just 15 fines were issued , all of which were for parking a campervan, erecting a tent or bedding with the intention of remaining overnight.

Just 24 fixed charge notices were issued for illegal parking in Miltown Malbay last year, in addition to 51 in Kilkee and 60 in Kilrush.

At The Cliffs of Moher the number of detected violation fell by 70% in the space of a year to just 46, here 30 motorists were fined for parking in a prohibited place, with seven fines issued for parking that endangered other traffic.

In total 3,929 parking fines were issued by Clare County Council which collected €147,930 in the process.
