The 175th anniversary of the birth of the founder of the GAA has been marked with a wreath laying ceremony at his statue outside Cusack Park in Ennis.
Carron native Michael Cusack was born on this day in 1847, and founded the Gaelic Athletic Association in Hayes’s Hotel in Thurles on November 1st, 1884.
GAA President Larry McCarthy visited the Cusack cottage in Carron last weekend to mark the occasion, while the Cairde Cusack Group arranged today’s event at the statue designed by Kilnamona sculptor Mike McTigue.
Chairman of the group Donal O’Loinsigh says the lasting impact of the GAA is a fitting tribute to Cusack.
