16% Increase In Numbers Waiting For Outpatient Appointment At Ennis Hospital

There’s been a more than 16% increase in the number of people waiting for an outpatient appointment at Ennis hospital.

It comes nearly 44,000 people are waiting to see a consultant in Ennis and Limerick in May.

The overall waiting list for an outpatient and inpatient appointment at Ennis General and University Hospital Limerick decreased by 103 patients in May.

The total of 43,940 waiting to see a specialist is a 3% drop on the same time last year.

While the waiting list as a whole continues to decrease incrementally each month, the numbers waiting for an outpatient appointent at Ennis Hospital have spiked.

There were 1,968 patients waiting to see a consultant in Ennis, a 16% rise on April’s figure of 1,666 people.

The majority of those were waiting for a cardiology appointment, followed by the high number of women in need of gynaecological care.

There was also an increase in the numbers waiting more than 18 months for an outpatient appointment at Ennis General, with 438 patients recorded in May, compared to 417 in April.

The numbers waiting for an inpatient appointment in both Ennis and Limerick increased in May too.

256 people were on the list in Ennis, up from 230 in April and 2,061 were waiting in Limerick, up from 1,991 the month prior.
