Motorists are being reminded that there is absolutely no excuse for driving without insurance.

It comes as new figures show there were over 151-thousand uninsured private vehicles on Irish roads last month – up from 85-thousand in 2013.

David Fitzgerald is the Chief Executive of the Motor Insurers' Bureau of Ireland.

He says motorists need to understand just how significant a risk they are facing.
