150 Children From Belarus Land At Shannon Today

A special group of 150 children from Belarus will land at Shannon Airport today.

It's part of the 30th Anniversary airlift by Chernobyl Children International to take children out of radiation affected regions for respite care in Ireland this summer.

The summer Rest and Recuperation Programme gives the children, who come from impoverished backgrounds and state-run institutions, a health-boosting reprieve from high levels of radiation to which they are exposed. 

Today marks the 30th Anniversary of world's worst nuclear disaster -CEO of Chernobyl Children International Adi Roche says the consequences of the disaster must not be forgotten.
