15% Drop In Homeless Figures In Midwest

There’s been a 15% drop in the number of people living in emergency accommodation across the Midwest.

New figures from the Department of Housing reveal that, at the end of last year, there were 459 people without a home in the region, down from 545 a month previous.

At the end of December, a total of 459 people in this region were staying in emergency accommodation such as hotels and B&Bs.

When broken down, this is 355 adults, including 64 in Clare, and 104 children across Clare and Limerick.

But it’s a welcome drop on the figures seen a month previous; when 385 adults and 160 children in the Midwest were in that situation.

That marks a 15% reduction in the space of a month but, when compared to the figures a year ago, it’s a much lower decrease of 2% in homelessness.

The rate of decrease in emergency accommodation figures in the Midwest last month is, however, far greater than the national average – overall, there was a reduction of just 0.5% in homeless figures in Ireland.
