145 Children From Chernobly Arrive At Shannon Today

A group of 145 children with special needs are arriving into Shannon Airport this afternoon from Chernobyl.

The children, who are from orphanages and homes in regions of Belarus affected by the 1986 Chernobyl disaster, will stay with host families for the next four weeks here.

Since 1991, over 25,000 children have arrived in Ireland for short stays thanks to Adi Roche’s Chernobyl Children International charity.

It’s said that their radiation levels drop by 50 percent during their time in Ireland and their life expectancy rises by two years.
