Over 13,500 Clare Motorists caught exceeding the Speed Limit each month in Clare

Over 13,500 Clare Motorists were caught speeding every month on record in 2022.

Figures obtained by Clare FM show a marginal increase in the number of motorists penalised in County Clare for driving offences compared to the same period last year.

According to Road Safety Authority Statistics for Q1 of 2022 an average of 13,657 Banner Licence holders are breaking the speed limit each month, which is an increase of 1,200 motorists per month in the same period of 2021.

 

An average of 14,300 Clare motorists received penalty points in the first quarter of 2022.

There are some positive trends for Banner motorists however as there was a marked decrease in the average number of individuals using their mobile phones while driving between January and March.

Further improvements were noted in the seatbelt wearing department, with 441 Motorists caught without seatbelts in Q1 of 2022 down from 589 Motorists in the same period of 2021.

There was also a drop in the number of unaccompanied learner drivers penalised on Clare roads with 764 Learner Drivers caught Unaccompanied in Q1 of 2021, which fell to 671 in the first three months of this year.

However the number of Motorists being prosecuted for not having insurance in this county has increased, with 254 people on average having no insurance in Q1 of 2021 going up to 282 between January and March 2022.
