Nurses say there has been a significant spike in the level of overcrowding at the region’s main hospital today.
The latest figure from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation show there were 120 admitted patients waiting for beds at University Hospital Limerick this morning, 49 of those in the Emergency Department.

The overall figure is 35 more than all ten hospitals serving the east of the country combined and is 50 more than the next busiest facility in the country; Galway University Hospital, where 70 patients were waiting on trolleys this morning.
The overall figure represents more than a quarter of all patients waiting for beds at Irish hospitals today, according to the INMO figures.
