12 percent drop in Clare crime rates in 2010

 

Burglaries across Clare plummeted by over 25 percent in the past two years.

New figures show that, overall, crime fell by 16 percent  in the count5y since 2008 with a 12 percent drop in 2010 alone with a fall in 95 percent of the headline categories.

Incidents of Arson which was a problem in the Shannon area for a time fell significantly with 57 cases in 2010 compared to over 70 the previous year – a 20 percent drop.

There was a 14 percent in drink driving arrests and robbery of the person almost halved.

However serious assault cases rose from 76 to 85 in the year and while there was a 65 percent increase in sexual offences in the county last year 70 percent of the cases were for historical offences

Speaking to Clare FM Chief Superintendent John Kerin says they also have concerns over certain types of thefts which have risen by almost 30 percent
