12 new charges against Sean Fitzpatrick

Anglo Irish Bank’s former chairman Sean Fitzpatrick has appeared at Dublin District Court on 12 new charges of financial irregularities at the institution.

The 64 year old is accused of  knowingly or recklessly making false statements to the bank’s auditors Ernst & Young by under-declaring the balance on loans by a total of 285 million euro.

Dressed in a navy suit, blue shirt and red tie, Sean Fitzpatrick took his place in the dock of Dublin District Court this morning on 12 new charges.

The 64 year old is accused of  knowingly or recklessly making false statements to Anglo Irish Bank’s auditors Ernst & Young by under declaring loan amounts between 2002 and 2007.

It’s alleged that these loans were for Mr Fitzpatrick himself or those connected with him – the sums involved total 285 million euro

The former Chairman was arrested by arrangement at the Bridewell Garda Station at 9.04am this morning.

Detective Inspector Ray Kavanagh told the court when charged after caution the 64 year old replied no comment.

He’s been remanded on bail until March 1st when the book of evidence is to be served; the DPP is directing trial on indictment.
