In excess of one hundred admitted patients were left waiting for beds at the region’s main hospital this morning.

The latest figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation show there were 111 patients on trolleys at University Hospital Limerick during morning rounds, 46 of those in the emergency department.

This level of overcrowding has been witnessed at the Dooradoyle facility on four other occasions across 2022 and 2023 and has been exceeded five times during the same period.

No other hospital in the country has recorded trolley numbers in excess of 100.
