10% Fall In The Number On The Live Register In Clare This February

The number of people on the Live Register in Clare has fallen by 10% in the year to February.

The latest figures from the Central Statistics Office show that over 4,700 people in the county were claiming some form of unemployment benefit last month.

A total of 4,744 people in Clare claimed unemployment benefit last month, a decrease of 10% on the previous February where over 5,200 were on the live register.

The number of people over 25 years of age in the receipt of a benefit was 4,259, while there were 485 people under 25 visiting a social welfare office last month.

The majority of people signed on in the county were in Ennis this February, with 2,263 people doing so, a drop of over 10%.

This was followed by 1,204 on the live register in North Clare, and 745 people signed on in West Clare.

East Clare had the largest decrease in the number of people who joined the queue as 532 signed on, a decrease of over 12%.

Nationally, of the almost 174,000 people on the live register, over 65,000 of them are stated as having no previous occupation.
