The CSO audited more than 1,600 properties in Clare throughout 2021 to assess their BER grade, which measures their energy efficiency.

Of the 1,685 homes assessed in this county, just 3 achieved the top rating of A1, 159 scored an A2 and a further 72 received an A3 grade respectively.

305 properties – or around 18 percent of the total surveyed – scored a form of B grade

C was the most common rating here last year, accounting for nearly 1 in 3 households.

However, 623 properties assessed were given scores of D or under in Clare in 2021.

218 of these, or around 13 percent, achieved the lowest possible grade of F or G, which is described as an ‘older property’ that is likely to have single glazed windows and no insulation.

The number of homes hitting higher grades is expected to rise in the next number of years, due to more grants available and new building regulations.
