Alan Morrissey’s latest guest for In Profile is Deirdre Scanlan.
Deirdre is a singer, musician and teacher who joined the well-known Irish trad music group Solas as their lead vocalist for their fourth album, 2000’s The Hour Before Dawn.
An All-Ireland Champion at all levels and an accomplished solo and ensemble performer, Deirdre spent eight years with Solas, performing on stages from London’s West End to the famous Radio City Music Hall in New York City, while she has also released her own music.

Deirdre has also been a primary school teacher in Nenagh, as well as teaching singing and fiddle.
