In Profile – Birgitta Hedin Curtin

This week’s guest for In Profile is Birgitta Hedin Curtin.

Birgitta’s story may begin in Scandanavia, but she has been a part of the fabric of Clare for many decades.

Birgitta is the founder, CEO and owner of the Burren Smokehouse, which she set up in 1989 with her husband, Peter.


Since then, the Lisdoonvarna-based business has gone from strength to strength, exporting a range of Irish organic smoke salmon all over the world.

Birgitta, through the Burren Smokehouse is one of the businesses helping to drive sustainable tourism in the Burren.

They are one of the members of the Burren Ecotourism Network that are currently signed up for the Geopark Code of Practice for Sustainable Tourism, which sees them actively monitoring and adapting their environmental performance, as well has helping to build sustainable communities.
