Ryan Suggests Council Involvement In Running Of Shannon Heritage Sites

The Transport Minister has opened the door to potentially allowing Clare County Council take over the running of Bunratty Castle, and other key Shannon Heritage sites.

The comments from Minister Eamon Ryan came as he was pressed on the future of Shannon Group, including its still-vacant position of Chairperson.

He’s vowed to speak with local Oireachtas members ahead of filling that role in the coming weeks, in recognition of the importance of Shannon Group to the wider MidWest region.

And when quizzed by Deputy Joe Carey, he also hinted at changes which could see the tourism functions of the Group transferred to the likes of Clare County Council.
