Francis Street in Ennis will once again be alive with the sound of music throughout the Fleadh as Clare FM get ready to welcome once again the prestigious celebration of our culture to the County town. As a staunch promoter of traditional Irish music for the last 27 years, the award-winning station will be at the heart of the action throughout the eight-day period.
The iconic West Wind programme will be the centre-point of the music as the jigs & reels echo through Ennis along with new shows especially created for the Fleadh. From Monday 14th August Clare FM will broadcast “The Lunchtime Session” directly after the main lunchtime news at 1pm This will be presented by popular West Wind Presenter Caoimhín Ó Sé. During the lunchtime session Caoimhín will be speaking with local, National & International musicians. The lunchtime session will be broadcast from the Clare FM marquee which will be located once again outside its studio’s on Francis Street. Each day, and night, Clare FM will be inviting musicians, participants in the various competitions & listeners to be part of the live broadcasts. The West Wind will broadcast from 7-9pm each night from Monday 14th right through to Monday 21st and will be live from the Clare FM marquee with Joan Hanrahan, Paula Carroll, Ronan Burke, Pat Costello & Eoin O’Neill, if you can sing, dance, carry a tune or just want to hear what’s going on you’ll be very welcome.
As well as broadcasts, Clare FM will have full video footage through Facebook live. The colour of the Fleadh can be heard throughout Clare FM with the normal Clare FM jingles having been transformed with a twist of Traditional music and the Clare FM team will be on the streets, at the camp sites and talking to some of the many thousands of visitor’s due to visit within the period.
Each day, Presenter Ger Sweeney will travel around the County to various areas and find out what’s happening outside of the County Town, and of course we’ll have daily updates on traffic and general information.
General Manager Susan Murphy commented “We’re as ready as we can be, part of the fun of the fleadh and live radio is the spontaneity and impromptu sessions that can happen. We’ve tried to improve on all aspects of the coverage from last year and there is a great air of excitement and anticipation across the Station, part of the added fun this year will be the Clare FM flash mob who will be making random appearances throughout the week. We want to extend a huge céad míle fáilte to all visitors to the County and look forward to bringing listeners at home and abroad the colour and the atmosphere of “The Fleadh down in Ennis” 2017”.
