For the first time in more than 30 years a Pan American Airways Boeing 757-200 will land at Shannon Airport.
“Yankee Clipper 11” is retracing the Flying Boat routes of the 1930 and 40’s between New York, Bermuda, Marseilles, Lisbon, London and finally reaching Shannon Airport for a very historic visit to Foynes, Co Limerick.
Pan American World Airways, which was founded in 1927 completed over 2,097 flights across the North Atlantic to Foynes during that period, with the Foynes Flying Boat Museum now featuring the world’s only full-size replica known as the Pan AM Yankee Clipper.
Passengers included Royalty, Movie Stars and Statesmen such as King George of Greece, Ernest Hemingway, Humphrey Bogart, John F Kennedy and Eleanor Roosevelt.
Director of the Foynes Flying Boat & Maritime Museum, Margaret O’Shaughnessy has been telling Clare FM’s Morning Focus that today’s flight is also a unique experience.
