Tones Shock The Bridge To Pull Off Opening Round Derby Win

Wolfe Tones have ripped up the script in the opening round of the TUS Clare Senior Hurling Championship to pull off a shock derby win against neighbours Sixmilebridge.

The Shannon men overcame the Bridge on a scoreline of 2-21 (27) to 3-16 (25.

Wolfetones got of to a blistering start racing into a 1-09 to 0-02 lead after twelve minutes of action.

Cian O’Rourke and Seán Murphy both found the net for the victors, while Brain Corry, Shane Golden and David Kennedy raised green flags for the 2020 champions.

At half-time Wolfe Tones led 2-14 to 3-05 and although the Bridge would rally in the second period to get it back to the minimum by the end of normal time, it’s as close as they would come.

Sixmilebridge’s next test is another derby against neighbours Newmarket-On-Fergus on Saturday August 8th, while Wolfe Tones will face Kilmaley.

Elsewhere Inagh Kilnamona (2) claimed an opening round win in the TUS Intermediate Hurling Championship defeating Broadford (2) 2-15 to 0-15.

Last night Killanena defeated newly promoted Banner by 1-20 to 0-20.
