On behalf of Shannon Estuary Hotel Limited, O’Leary Sludds Architects submitted the application to Clare County Council on April 26th 2024.

Travel company Abbey Group had written to Treacy’s Oakwood Hotel in the weeks prior, stating they would be in a position to supply a substantial increase in business if the hotel had additonal rooms available.

As part of the development the hotel’s second floor will be expanded to cater for the installation of 29 bedrooms, while an additional six rooms will be added to the first story allocation.

Alterations to the layout of sections of both the ground floor and first floor are also included in the development, along with the installation of a new lift and any neccessary site works.

The development will also see an expansion to the sites car parking facilities taking the total number of spaces to 208.

50 car parking spaces will be allocated as electric vehicle spaces with a further 13 designated as disabled parking spaces.

The extension was approved on January 17th, subject to seven conditions.
