Over 8,000 To Come Through Shannon Airport Today As Droves Fly Home For Christmas

Over 8,000 people will pass through Shannon Airport today as the facility welcomes scores home for the festive season.

The Christmas spirit is in the air at the facility which is seeing a 10% boost in its passenger numbers this Christmas.

It’s one of the busiest days of the festive period for the Clare base which is seeing 125,000 come through its gates in the few days before and after Christmas.
It marks a 10% increase in Christmas traffic for Shannon which has seen significant growth in the past year.
Passengers coming home for Christmas were greeted in the arrivals lounge by the sounds of the St Flannan’s College choir.
Teacher Edel Vaughan says it was a great opportunity for their students to showcase their talents while contributing to the atmosphere.
Over 8,000 are coming through the airport today alone with roughly the same number expected on January 2nd, making them the two busiest days of the festive calendar for the facility.
These parents are eager to have their loved ones home for the Christmas break.
Marion Fahy from Gort is waiting for one of her children to come home while another will be spending Christmas in a more exotic location.
With all passengers accounted for, all eyes are on a very special visitor who’ll be entering Clare’s airspace over the coming days.
Airport Director Niall Kearns says he has it on good authority the path is clear for Saint Nic as he prepares to embark on his annual voyage.
