Local Support Saving Grace For North Clare Retailers Amid “Challenging” Christmas

Retailers in North Clare are reporting a much quieter Christmas trade than normal this year.

It comes in spite of predictions from the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission that the average Irish shopper would spend over €1,700 this festive season; up 14 % on last year.

Some businesses in Ennistymon have pointed to challenges with both the hospitality and standard VAT rates, along with soaring utility bills, and parking deficits.

Co-Owner of Airmid Natural Handmade Skincare and Gifts Kevin Lynch says strong local support has helped the town’s businesses through a difficult season.
