The Clare-based former President of Active Retirement Ireland is calling on the incoming Government to make greater supports for initiatives that promote aging well a priority in the new year.
The organisation’s calling for the implementation of national initiatives to reduce isolation and enhance social inclusion, including increased funding and support for local community programmes and groups already working at grassroots level to achieve this.
It says this country needs to move away from a medical model of ageing, where older people are viewed through a lens of care, dependency on services and cost to society.
Shannon-based Active Retirement Ireland member member Kay Murphy believes it’s a disgrace that the National Positive Ageing Strategy has been left on a shelf to gather dust.
