Clare Haulier Slams “Mindboggling” Government Inaction On Toll Booths

A Clare haulier claims the Government’s refusal to make his industry more environmentally friendly is “mindboggling”.

It comes as the Irish Road Haulage Association is calling for the removal of barriers at toll booths which it’s estimated cost drivers €26 million in wasted fuel each year.

Roughly 25,000 trucks pass through toll booths in Ireland on an annual basis resulting in around 45,000 tonnes of carbon being produced.

With the State facing fines of up to €26 billion if it misses its 2030 climate targets, Ennis-based former IRHA President and Managing Director of Spa Transport says hauliers shouldn’t bear the blame.
