Almost 100 Homeless In Clare As Figure Rises By 12% In A Month

The number of Clare adults in emergency accommodation has risen by more than 10% in a month as almost 100 are now availing of supports here.

The latest Department of Housing figures, which have just been published, indicate homelessness is becoming increasingly prevalent in this county and the wider Midwest region.

A record 15,199 people accessed emergency accommodation in November 2024 which was 233 more than in the previous month.

Of these, a total of 4,658 were children which was also up from October.

The figures show that 95 adults were homeless in Clare in the month in question, up almost 12% in the space of four weeks and 38% within a year.

Across the Midwest, 551 were availing of emergency accommodation, indicating a surge of 3% in a month and 28% in a year.

There were also 210 homeless child dependents in the region in November which was down 4% from the previous month but showed a rise of 41% from the same time in 2023.
