Widow Of Man Killed In Ballyvaughan Crash Hopeful His Death Will Effect Landmark Changes To Local Road Safety

A Clare woman who’s husband recently lost his life in a fatal road traffic collision is hopeful his death will be the catalyst for critical traffic calming measures in the region.

Jerry O’Connor was killed last Thursday when the motorcycle he was travelling on collided with a car on the N67 road near Ballyvaughan.

A French Tourist has since been charged with dangerous driving in connection to the incident, however according to locals the recent colission is the third major crash to have occurred on the stretch known as the corkscrew since 2018.

Helga Himmelsbach who ran the Burren Wellness Centre along with Jerry, led a community protest in the Burren village this morning calling for a speed limit reduction and additional signage along the route.

Helga says the only consolation she can take from her husbands passing is that her actions may save lives in the future.
