A West Clare Councillor is describing Irish Water’s communication with local residents and businesses in the area about potential water outages there as ‘dire’.

The utility is currently undergoing construction upgrade works at the New Doolough Water Treatment Plan, with reduced pressure and intermittent outages expected between now and the 30th of September.

In a statement to Clare FM, Irish Water says it informed local representatives and the local media as part of its communications strategy, but that a letter drop in the region ‘wasn’t practical’.

Speaking with Clare FM’s Josh Prenderville, Kilrush-based Independent Councillor Ian Lynch says he’s fearful some businesses in the West of the county may have to close their doors at times in the next ten days.
