The level of overcrowding appears to be worsening at the region’s main hospital heading into the weekend, despite a fall in trolley numbers nationally.

The latest figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation show there were 104 admitted patients waiting for beds at University Hospital Limerick this morning, 42 of those on trolleys in the Emergency Department.

The overall figure is up on yesterday’s stats and is more than double the next busiest facility in the country; Cork University Hospital, where 49 patients were on trolleys this morning.
