Two men are due to appear in court today after a US military aircraft at Shannon Airport was targeted by anti-war activists last night.
It’s understood that the pair were detained after they breached the airport perimeter at around 10.30pm and made their to way to a US military plane that had been parked on a remote taxiway.
The men are believed to have damaged one aircraft using a red marker before they were intercepted and detained by Gardaí. Members of the Defence Forces were also on security duty at the airport at the time.
The men were arrested and taken to Shannon Garda Station for questioning.
Gardaí have confirmed that two men will appear before Ennis District Court later today to face charges of alleged criminal damage.
It’s believed that no other damage was caused to the plane which was due to depart Shannon this morning.
A similar incident occurred at the airport last year.
