St Senan’s Rugby Club in Shannon is poised to become the first club in Ireland or Britain to introduce mandatory headgear for underage players.

All players will wear headgear from the start of next season.

The President of Shannon Rugby Club says that concerns about head injuries and concussion has prompted the club to introduce the mandatory rule.

Dave Lee says the club is hopeful that player numbers will improve as a result and that parents are fully supportive of the initiative.
