Clare County Council’s Monthly Management Report for this month details the housing needs of 2,831 households in the county.

The local authority says that the cessation of the eviction ban has had a “ricochet effect” on the homeless action team with services experiencing a “noted increase in the number of presentations, queries and matters arising around notices to quit”.

The total figure of 2,831 households comprises 3,917 adults and 2,142 children.

In terms of types of accommodation, over 75pc of households are seeking 2-bed accommodation with a further 17pc looking for 3-bed accommodation.

Just 5pc of those on the list are looking for either 4 or 5 bed homes

Over 40pc of applicants have listed Ennis as their first preference location with Shannon, Clarecastle and the combined area region of Inagh, Ennistymon and Lahinch the next most popular areas.

In addition, Kilrush, the joint areas of Feakle, Scarriff and Whitegate and the cluster of Meelick, Parteen and Westbury all have over 100 households seeking dwellings there.

The Council also states that county Clare has 1,186 active HAP tenancies.

The council says it’s on course to meet its target of 149 units for the year and that it “will continue to deal with all challenges and meet targets for the coming year”.
