The latest figures from the National Treatment Purchase Fund show mixed results for local hospitals in October.

At Ennis General Hospital 2,023 people were waiting for inpatient and outpatient appointments, a drop of 41 on the previous month.

No-one was waiting over 15 months for an in-patient appointment, and while there was a reduction in the number of people waiting 18 months for outpatient appointments, compared to October last year, the figure has risen since September.

Meanwhile, at University Hospital Limerick, the number of patients waiting for appointments has risen overall to 32,192, though the number waiting over 18 months has dropped significantly.

There were over 3,800 people waiting for ophthalmology appointments alone – 391 of those for a year and a half or more and more than 3,300 overall for Ear Nose and Throat.
