SIPTU To Ballot Shannon Staff For Industrial Action

SIPTU has announced that it’s members working at Shannon Airport are to be balloted for industrial action.

It’s after Shannon Group confirmed it’s pushing ahead with plans for a 20% pay cut, in spite of union opposition.

The Airport has been forced to contend with a huge fall in passenger numbers as a result of the COVID crisis.

The news comes after it emerged that Aer Lingus is considering re-allocating two of its aircrat away from Shannon Airport, and instead basing them in Airports in the UK.

In response to that, Clare’s Green Party Senator has called on the Minister For Transport to meet with the county’s government members in efforts to save the Airport.

Senator Roisín Garvey is looking for the meeting with her party leader Eamonn Ryan to address a range of issues.
