Taoiseach Opens Door To Shannon Group Supports

The Taoiseach has suggested that the July Stimulus Package could provide support for Shannon Airport and the broader Shannon Group.

Micheál Martin’s government will unveil a multi-billion euro package of supports this week, in what represents the cornerstone of its response to the economic fallout of the coronavirus.

In the Dáil this afternoon, he was questioned by Clare Independent TD Michael McNamara, who asked what supports would be provided to allow for its Shannon Heritage sites open to a greater extent then is planned.

The Taoiseach insisted that his government is mindful of the problems faced by Shannon Group.

The Taoiseach’s comments come after Shannon Chamber lent its voice to calls for Bnuratty and King John’s Castles to open beyond the end of August.

Today, its Chief Executive said she is hopeful that government will provide financial support to Shannon Heritage.

Helen Downes and Shannon Chamber are looking to engage with Minister Catherine Martin on the matter, and she says government support is vital.
