On August 13th, 2022, an unfortunate incident occurred at Doughmore Beach in West Clare, involving two young children who were caught in a riptide.
Acting swiftly and bravely, Ian Bolger and Darren Byrnes, two local individuals, leaped into the sea to rescue the boys.
The alarming event triggered a large-scale search and rescue operation, with the participation of the Kilkee and Doolin units of the Irish Coast Guard, Rescue 115, the National Ambulance Service, and the local Gardaí.
To capture the gravity of this remarkable rescue, a captivating radio documentary titled “Riptide” was produced. The documentary intimately delves into the experiences of the courageous locals, the search and rescue team members, water safety experts, and the concerned family directly impacted by the incident.
