Resolute Clare Bow Out Of Hurling Championship After Defeat To Cork

A goal-hungry Cork side have drawn a close to Clare’s run in this year’s All Ireland Hurling Championship.

The Rebels hit home three goals to progress to the Quarter Finals, despite going two men down late in the competition.

All three green flags came from Cork at the hands of Jack O’Connor, Shane Kingston and Shane Barrett but Brian Lohan’s determined side kept the points ticking over to keep themselves in contention for most of the game.

With Clare five points down in the dying moments, Tony Kelly found the back of the net from the penalty spot to reduce the gap to just two points.

But a last-gasp attempt from the Ballyea man to find the winner was expertly blocked by Cork keeper Patrick Collins, to clench victory for the Leesiders.

Final score in the Gaelic Grounds: Cork 3-19, 1-23 Clare.
