Defending champions Eire Óg and Kilmurry Ibrickane are among the six teams who registered their first victories of this years Clare senior football championship.

Newcomers Corofin are also off the mark after producing the shock result of the weekend.

Holders Eire Óg held off a late surge from a St Breckan’s side who finished with 14 men, as they turned a three point half time deficit into a one point winning margin.

The biggest result of the weekend came in the other Group One tie, where Corofin marked their return to the senior ranks with victory over Miltown.

0-6 from county hurling star Robin Mounsey proved crucial for Doug Hurley’s side, including a dramatic injury time winner.

Lissycasey and Cratloe are first off the mark in Group Two, with victories over Kilmihil and Doora Barefield respectively.

In Group Three, Kilmurry withstood a surge to overcome Doonbeg, while Clondegad had two Podge McMahon goals to thank for their win over Ennistymon.
